The role at a glance
Every lesson is online, one tutor with one learner on video, so you teach from home at the hours you keep free in Cairo time.
The role is part-time: you teach as an independent tutor, alongside your studies or your other work.
The fee
The fee runs from EGP 90 to 410 an hour by subject and level; each offer names its exact rate before you accept it, and we pay you for every lesson you teach.
Every learner who asks for a different tutor gets one free of charge, so each match you keep is a learner who chose to stay.
If you teach at a government school or a university today, apply all the same: a person reviews your application first and talks it through with you.

- Egypt and eight more countries across the Gulf, Asia and Africa
- Fee
- EGP 90 to 410 an hour
What you do
- Teach the digital SAT in both sections, Reading and Writing and Math, live on video to one American Diploma learner at a time.
- Prepare learners for EST I Literacy and Math, and for the two EST II subjects each learner's chosen faculty requires.
- Open with a diagnostic, then plan backwards from the learner's chosen test date.
- Set timed module work between lessons and read every wrong answer by type before looking at the score.
- Teach the learner to use the on-screen tools of each test: the built-in graphing calculator, the reference sheet, mark for review and the timer.
- Track progress against the minimum score the learner's target faculty sets, and adjust the plan after every practice test.
- Keep a short written record of each lesson so the learner can revise from it.
What you bring
- Strong command of school maths through algebra, functions, trigonometry and data, at the level of the SAT and EST II Math Level 2.
- Academic English strong enough to unpack a grammar rule, a rhetorical choice or a dense reading passage in plain words.
- First-hand knowledge of the digital SAT format and the EST papers, as a past candidate or as a teacher.
- Working knowledge of how Egyptian universities turn an American Diploma and a test score into an equivalent total.
- A quiet room, a reliable connection and a computer with a camera, plus a writing tablet or a second camera for maths.
Skills that show in a lesson
- Diagnosing errors by domain and question type
- Teaching pacing against a module clock
- Explaining in English with Arabic where it helps a learner
- Annotating a shared screen live
- Turning a score report into a weekly plan
One learner, two tests, one target score
An American Diploma learner in Egypt reaches a public university through an equivalent total: the school grades from eight subjects, plus a standardised test score that carries most of the weight. Most learners sit the digital SAT, many sit the EST, and some try both before settling on one. This role covers both. You teach the maths and the English each test asks for, and you know where the two tests part ways, so a learner who switches between them in Grade 12 keeps moving forward.
The learners are mostly 16 to 18, in Grades 11 and 12 at international and private schools, with a steady line of graduates who sat once in the summer and want a higher number before the next placement round. Lessons are in English, and you explain in Arabic whenever a learner needs a concept unlocked in the language they think in.

The SAT went digital for international test takers in March 2023, and the paper habits many learners pick up from older practice books no longer fit it. Each section is split into two modules, and the second module adapts to how the learner did in the first. A learner who rushes the first Math module and drops easy marks there starts the second module from that weaker showing. Scores run from 400 to 1600, with 200 to 800 for each section. The adaptive mechanic changes how you coach pacing, and it is the first thing a strong tutor explains.
Reading and Writing works through short passages of 25 to 150 words, each with one question attached, across four content domains set out in the official specifications. Math covers Algebra, Advanced Math, Problem-Solving and Data Analysis, and Geometry and Trigonometry, with about three quarters of the questions multiple choice and a quarter answered by typing a number. The built-in graphing calculator is available throughout Math, and the reference sheet sits one click away. A learner who has never practised with those tools on screen loses minutes looking for them.
The EST, as it is sat in Egypt
| Paper | Time | Questions |
|---|---|---|
| EST I Literacy (Reading and Writing) | 90 minutes | 85 multiple choice |
| EST I Math | 75 minutes | 50 multiple choice |
| EST I Essay (optional) | 50 minutes | 1 essay |
| EST II Math Level 1 or Level 2 | 60 minutes | 40 |
| EST II Biology, Physics or Chemistry | 60 minutes | 60 |
Source: EST Egypt, frequently asked questions (opens in a new tab)
Each EST I section and each EST II subject is scored from 200 to 800, the essay from 2 to 8, every question is worth one point, and nothing is taken off for a wrong or blank answer. EST I Literacy splits into Language Usage at 46% and Reading Comprehension at 54%, built on four to six passages that climb from Grade 9 difficulty to university level. EST I Math weights Basic Algebra, Information Analysis and Data Interpretation, and Higher Math at 30% each, with the last 10% on supplementary content. A calculator is allowed in EST I Math, and since March 2024 a scientific calculator is allowed in every EST II science paper as well.
The EST II choice is where learners most often need a tutor who thinks ahead. Medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, physiotherapy, veterinary medicine and nursing ask for Biology plus one of Math Level 1, Physics, Chemistry or Math Level 2. Engineering, computing, information technology, architecture and urban planning ask for Math Level 1 or Level 2 plus one of Physics, Chemistry or Biology. The two maths levels differ sharply: plane shapes and measurement carry 16% to 20% of Level 1 and vanish from Level 2, where algebra and functions climb to 46% to 50% and trigonometry to 12% to 16%. New practice guides for EST I Math and every EST II paper follow the 2026 specifications, while the older ones follow 2022, so you teach from the current set.

Decision 1522, issued on 13 July 2026 and reported in the press, set the SAT minimum at 1050 and the formula as the score divided by 1600, weighted at 60%, with 1100 out of 1600 on the subject tests for the practical faculties; EST and ACT scores are converted through tables issued by the Ministry of Education. The council for private and national universities publishes the same split: 60% from the test score and 40% from the eight subject grades. In August 2026 the admission office reminded American Diploma learners to send their SAT result electronically to code 7437, and warned that a candidate whose result does not arrive is removed from the placement lists. A tutor who knows these rules turns a vague goal into a number: a learner aiming at engineering can see exactly what each extra 30 points does to the equivalent total, and the plan follows from that.
Where learners lose their marks
These are the patterns that come up again and again in SAT and EST preparation. A strong applicant recognises each one and has a way to fix it.
- Fluent English mistaken for exam English. Learners from English-medium schools speak well and still drop marks on conventions questions about punctuation between clauses, verb agreement across a long subject and transitions that look fine to the ear.
- The Reading and Writing clock. Thirty-two minutes for each module of 27 questions leaves little over a minute a question, and learners who reread every passage run out before the last few.
- Maths wrapped in words. A learner who solves equations quickly can freeze on a word problem about rates, percentages or a table of survey data, because the hard part is turning the sentence into the equation.
- Effort spread evenly across both modules. The first module decides the ceiling of the second, so careless slips early cost far more than the same slip later.
- The EST reading section running out of time. Eighty-five Literacy questions in 90 minutes punishes a learner who has never practised a full section in one sitting.
- EST II subjects chosen too late. A learner who discovers in Grade 12 that a pharmacy place needs Biology plus a second science is left with only weeks to prepare.
- The calculator as a crutch. Reaching for it on every question wastes time that mental arithmetic or a quick sketch would have saved.
- The optional EST essay left blank by learners who assume it does not matter, even though it carries its own score from 2 to 8.
- Revising from out-of-date material. Paper SAT books and EST guides written to the 2022 specifications still circulate, and their question types and timing no longer match the test.
Inside a typical SAT lesson
A typical 60-minute SAT Math lesson
Warm-up from the last set
You open the learner's homework results on a shared screen and pick the three questions that went wrong for the same reason, for example misreading what a function question actually asks for.
Name the error type
The learner explains their own working aloud while you annotate it, and together you label the slip: careless arithmetic, a concept gap, or a misread question.
Teach the idea once, cleanly
You work one fresh example on a digital whiteboard or a tablet, writing each step large enough to read on a phone, and show the fastest route through the built-in graphing calculator where it saves time.
Timed burst
The learner answers six questions of the same domain against a visible timer, with the camera on, while you watch the pace without interrupting.
Review by pattern
You go through the burst by question type, and the learner marks which questions to flag and return to under real test conditions.
Set the next block
You close with a short written note: what was fixed, what still needs work, and a timed set to finish before the next lesson.
A Reading and Writing lesson runs on the same rhythm with different tools: the passage sits on the shared screen, the learner highlights the line that proves the answer, and you ask why each wrong option fails before moving on. On the EST, the same lesson stretches to longer passages and a full 90-minute section once a month, so the learner builds the stamina the Literacy paper demands.

The test owner's calendar, read on 24 September 2026, ends with the December 2026 round; no 2027 dates were published then.
The year has a clear shape. September and October bring the Grade 12 learners who want their best score in hand before the spring, and the November and December SAT and EST dates are the first deadline for many of them. January and February are quieter for SAT work, and EST learners use them to prepare for the next round once its dates are published. From March to June the Grade 11 learners arrive, sitting a first SAT in May or June to see where they stand, while Grade 12 learners make their final attempts. July and August bring graduates who saw their placement result and want a stronger number from whichever SAT or EST date comes next.
Score release dates sit in each test calendar, and EST results come out two weeks after the final day of a round by the test owner's calendar, and within three weeks by its Egypt FAQ, so every season has a short window where you read a fresh score report with the learner and rebuild the plan around it.
Signs of a strong SAT applicant
- You can teach all eight SAT domains, four in Reading and Writing and four in Math, and you know which ones a learner can lift fastest.
- You have used the digital format yourself, so you can describe the official testing app, the adaptive modules and the on-screen tools from experience.
- You read errors before scores. A learner at 1180 and a learner at 1180 can need completely different plans, and you can tell which one is in front of you.
- You know the two EST maths levels apart and the EST II science content well enough to advise on subject choice early.
- Your English is at the test's level, so a question about a dangling modifier or a passage on economics never catches you out.
- You speak the language of admissions, from the 60% weight to the score code, and can explain them to a 17-year-old in two minutes.
- You stay calm and respectful with a learner who is anxious, behind schedule or retaking after a disappointing result.
