Who it is for

For British-curriculum learners in Egypt

New Cairo alone has 105 international schools, 38 of them British, according to the city authority in June 2026. An Egyptian IGCSE learner also studies the identity subjects the ministry tests.

  • Year 9 learners before the step into IGCSE
  • Year 10 and Year 11 learners on the way to their exams
  • Learners choosing between Core and Extended
  • Learners aiming at medicine or engineering in Egypt
  • Learners resitting a subject or entering as private candidates

How the system and its exams work

A syllabus for each subject, exams at the end of two years

Each subject has a syllabus and a code published by the exam board, and learners sit written papers at the end of the two years. Many subjects have two tiers, Core and Extended, and grades run from A* to G. Cambridge also writes a syllabus for Egypt: English as a Second Language, code 0465.

Exam boards
Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel, each with its own syllabus codes.
Egypt’s zone
Egypt is in Cambridge administrative zone 3, and each zone has its own timetable.
November 2026
Cambridge exam weeks in zone 3 run from 28 September to 13 November 2026.
Edexcel
A May and June series, and a November series that replaced January from 2023.
Route to university
Published admission guides describe eight different subjects across O, AS and A levels, with advanced biology for medicine.
Identity subjects
Arabic, religious education and social studies or history, tested by the ministry.

  • Past papers at real exam timing
  • Evening times in Cairo time

Common questions

The school enters you for a tier based on your teacher’s view of the likely grade. Core leads to grades C to G and Extended to grades A* to E, so a learner aiming for C or above usually sits Extended.

It is English (Core) as a Second Language (Egypt), the syllabus Cambridge writes for Egypt. Ask your school which syllabus you are entered for, and we match you with a tutor who knows its papers. Before your series, you can switch to another tutor who knows 0465, free of charge.

Yes, through admission for equivalent certificates. Published guides describe eight different subjects across O, AS and A levels with no subject counted twice, and medicine asks for advanced biology. Check with the admission office before you choose your subjects.

In zone 3, Egypt’s zone, Cambridge exam weeks run from 28 September to 13 November 2026 in the final timetable. Each paper’s date is in the zone 3 timetable on the Cambridge website.

The exam is in English, so lessons build the vocabulary in English, and the tutor explains in Arabic whenever that makes an idea easier.
